Clane sink Kilcock in 7 goal thriller.

Division 3
Kilcock Celtic 2 Clane United (2nd) 5

Clanes' second team took a big step forward today in the Walace Trophy Division 3 with an impressive victory against Kilcock Celtic. Kilcock had the better start and took the lead very early into the game with a free kick which was smashed into the top corner of the Clane net. Kilcock continued to play some solid football and where unlucky to concede an equaliser fifteen minutes into the game when Jordan Pedreschi hammered home a header to level it up. Less than five minutes after Clanes' equaliser, Kilcock took the lead again after some impressive offensive play from their forwards. Kilcock then got a third goal which was deservedy ruled out for offside keeping the game at two one. Clane then started to play some impressive football and began to dominate in many areas of the pitch with Robbie Delaney going close on a number of occasions. They got the equaliser they deserved ten minutes before the break when Sean Darcy put his head on the end of a corner kick. The game was quite even for the rest of the half and Clane looked very solid in the back line with Eric McCann and Sean Darcy stopping any Kilcock attacks.

The second half started with both teams level at two all. Clane came out and started to take complete control of the game. Not long into the second half Clanes' Aaron Sheary made a blistering run down the right wing and he cut inside the defence to fire a shot into the top corner to give Clane the lead. Clane continued to press on and scored once again twenty minutes into the second half when Robbie Delaney gave a great through ball to Jordan who was one and one with the Kilcock keeper and he hammered his shot low and hard past the keeper who never had a chance of saving it. Kilcock tried to come back into the game on a number of occasions but were unsuccessful as Eric McCann tormented the Kilcock forwards and allowed them no time on the ball. With ten minutes to go Jason Acton floated a free kick from thirty yards into the bottom corner past a helpless keeper to make the score five two. Late on both teams had chances with Clanes centre back Eric McCann darting back to make a last minute clearance off the line and Clane also had a sixth goal ruled out after the referee deemed the scorer to be offside.

Best for Clane Eric McCann, Robbie Delaney and Sean Darcy.

Clane close the gap.

Division 3
Clane United (2nd) 3 Prosperous 1

Clane second team notched up another impressive victory and in doing so closed the gap at the top of division 3 to just two points with a game in hand. Clane where impressive from the start and had a number of very early attempts saved by Ger Boland the prosperous goalkeeper. Clane took the lead mid way through the first half after an impressive display by Ger Boland who made a double save from close range and was unfortunate to be bet by a third attempt from Jason Acton to give Clane the lead. Clane continued to play some fantastic football and went close with two long range efforts by Eric McCann and Cathal Maguire. Prosperos had very little time in the Clane half thanks to some solid work by Gary Hunt and Sean Darcy. The first half ended one nil to Clane who looked very strong and were in control of the game.

The second half started much as the first had ended with Clane controlling the game. Clane continued to pile the pressure on and were denied on more occasions by some more sensational goalkeeping. Less then ten minutes into the second half Clane received a penalty after Eric McCann was taken down in the box Jason Acton slotted the penalty away to put Clane two nil up with his second goal of the game. Prosperous then started to brighten up as they knew they needed a goal to get back into the game but some more solid work in the Clane defence broke down any attacks. In injury time Prosperous got a goal back after Clane’s Warren Beale saved a free kick which came back out of the post to the attacking prosperous attackers who tapped it in to make things two one. Prosperous then went all out in search of an equaliser and as a result of this left gaps in there defence which Clane took full advantage of when Warren Beale kicked the ball nearly the full length of the pitch to the attacking Cathal Maguire who squared the ball to Robbie Delaney who hammered the ball away to wrap the points up for Clane.

Best for Clane Jason Acton, Cathal Maguire and Eric McCann

Best for Prosperous Ger Boland

Division 3
Clane United (2nd) 4 Caragh Celtic 1

A young Clane second team continued to show very good form by clocking up another impressive win this time at home to Caragh. Clane started strongest and had a couple of very early attempts cleared away by a physically strong Caragh defence. The first goal came mid way through the first half when a Warren Beal clearance went over the top of the Caragh defence and in the ensuing battle a poorly cleared ball from Caragh found the back of their own net. Clane took their foot of the pedal and keeper Warren Beal was forced into making a series of very good saves before Caragh pulled one back with a well taken goal from an excellent move that left the Clane defence scratching their heads. Clane bounced straight back and five minutes before half time a perfectly delivered Ray Kelly corner found the unmarked Jordon Pedreschi’s head for his first of the game and Clane’s second.

The second half started much as the first had ended with Clane having long spells of domination but to their credit Caragh gave as good as they got and with only a single goal in the difference the tie could have gone either way. Midway through the half a through ball to Clanes' Rob Delany left him one on one with the keeper only to be taken down in the penalty area. Jordon Pedreschi stepped up and slotted away the resulting penalty. At this stage in the game Caragh started to throw everything forward and the result was they left themselves very exposed at the back. Pedreschi got his hatrick 15 minutes from the end of the game with another header, this time from a Jason Acton long throw that Rory Delap would have been proud of.

Best for Clane: Jordon Pedreschi and Jason Acton.
