Division 3
Grangecon 1 Clane United 2nd 3

A young Clane second team continued to show very good form by clocking up another impressive away win, this time against Grangecon. Both sides started at a blistering pace disregarding the morning heat. Grangecon were unlucky not to open the scoring after some questionable defending resulted in a series of free kicks around the Clane box.
After seeing off the Grangecon barrage of free kicks, Clane began to settle into their stride and they dominated the centre of the park for long spells. Ten minutes before half time a long ball from Aaron Seary in the Clane midfield found Eric McCann’s feet. McCann took the ball to the end line and fired an inch perfect ball on to the head of the waiting Jordon Pedreschi to score Clanes first and the only goal of the half.
The second half began with a rejuvenated Grangecon pushing everything into attack and Clane defending solidly. Jason Acton, Mark O’Hagon and Wayne Quinn in the Clane defence all did their part to keep the home team subdued. The clinical pairing of McCann and Pedreschi up front for Clane continued to torment the Grangecon defence and it wasn’t long before McCann, battling for a fifty fifty ball with the defender, managed to find Pedreschi’s foot for a well taken volley into the corner of the home goal.

A deflated Grangecon pushed everything forward in an effort to salvage something from the game and in doing so left an opening for a long clearance to Clane substitute Stephen Sweeny to put away Clane’s third of the game.
Grangecon managed to pull back a consolation goal ten minutes from the end after a rare mistake in the Clane back line put the scorer through for a one on one with the Clane keeper which he managed to tuck away very neatly.

Best for Clane Eric McCann and Jason Acton.

Bridge remain rooted to the bottom of the sage premier division table with one win from four games following this heavy defeat at Doctors Road.

The Athy side were dominant in the first half hour with Gary Keaveney, Eoin Mitchell and Brian Leonard all being denied by fine stops from the excellent Ray Kelly in the home goal. Alan Brennan struck a crucial opener against the run of play for the home side just before the break and the second half was just three minutes old when Richie Phillips headed their second past John Paul Hickey in the visitors goals.

Rory Deane made it 3-0 just before the hour mark and Phillips netted his second and his sides fourth with six minutes remaining after good work by Cathal Murtagh. Mick O'Malley and Rory Deane excelled for the home side while midfielders Wayne Leonard and Noel Mitchellwere Bridges best.

Division 3
Moone Celtic 0 Clane United (2nd) 2

Moone looked far from prepared for this one as it could have been a bigger defeat if Clane had taken half of their chances throughout the game. Moone had a number of chances in the first half through some good one touch football only to be cleared by a strong Clane defence.

Clanes keeper was in top form and had his entire area covered every time Moone threatened to score. At 0-0 going into the second half Moone were going to have to come up with something special to twin this one and for the first twenty minutes of the second half the home side pushed hard but to no avail.

Just on 75 minutes Clane cleared the ball long down field which deceived the Moone defence and an on running attacker took full advantage of the mistake. With heads dropped in the home team five minutes later Clane doubled their lead and wrapped up the points.

Clane United (1st) 0 Sundays Well 1

Sundays Well collected three points from this closely contested game at Doctors Road to continue their satisfactory start to the season having taken a point from their previous outing against favourites Portlaoise Celtic,

The early stages of the game produced little by the way of entertainement as the action was mostly in midfield with neither keeper having to deal with a shot in anger. That all changed in the 22 minute however when the Well's Mark Hayden was taken down by Uniteds keeper as he attempted to round him in the box. Johnny Burke made no imstake from the spot.

Clane then had a period of dominance and they were denied by a stunning save from visiting keeper Scott Kinsella in the 35th minute when he dived full length to turn around a net bound shot from Alan Brennan. Kinsella again came to his sides rescue just before the break when he touched over a fine header from Ciaran Quinn.

Clane continued to go in search of a leveller at the start of the second half and Alan Brennan was just off target with a volley from the edge of the box. The visiting defence, in which Pierce and Johnny Burke excelled comfortably, dealt with Uniteds' best efforts for the remainder, although they never looked like adding to their single goal tally.

Clane United will feel they deserved somthing from the game and were best served by the impressive Alan Brennan and Ciaran Quinn.
