Under 7 Division
Sallins Celtic 0 Clane United U7 8

It was a cold and windy afternoon in Sallins for this match, with Clane turning on the style in this one sided match.
In the first period Clane were three up with two goals from Sean Connolly amd one from Tom Harron.

In the second period Clane doubled their tally with a brace from Davy Hepple and Mark Kelly's first goal for Clane.
To finish the game off, we had a goal in each of the remaining periods from Kian Cleary.

Kildare advance despite brave Clane display February 28th '09

Under 11 Cup
Clane United U11 0 Kildare Town 1

Clane Utd and Kildare Town played a brilliant cup match in Clane.

It was end to end stuff with the home side starting the brighter of the two teams. Clane got on top and started to make good chances but could not convert any of them. Some fine defending from Robert Phillips and Danny Callan of Clane kept the hosts firmly on top with the first half ending scoreless.

Clane kept the pressure up in the second half but could not take advantage and with just two minutes to go Kildare Town  broke away and delt Clane a killer blow to score a fine goal.

Best for Clane Robert Phillips,Danny Callan and Kyle Devey.

Clane United U14 0 Kilcullen B 0

A nil all draw was the order of the day at Doctors Road to-day as Clane United played host to Kilcullen B.

Right from the start of this game Clane knew there were in a battle as KilcullenWere determined to make this a tough physical game.  Despite plenty of shots on goal in the first half by Clane none of them hit the target and the first half ended in deadlock.

The second half started with more promise as Clane playing with the breeze started to play some nice passing football. Killian Patchell came close to scoring early in the second half when he got past the central defender and took the ball up the right wing, only to see his short slam into the side netting.  Clane put a lot of pressure on Kilcullen with Dean Callan and Dylan Hannon making some great runs but their short were taken over the bar on numerous occasions.

Clane’s back line of Sean O’Rourke, Karl Cleary, Dean Slattery and Christian and were once again solid and it says a lot for them when the Clane net minderonly handled the ball twice in the game! With 3 minutes remaining Davina Ntim was clearly brought down in the box but no penalty was awarded.

All credit to this Kilcullen side who kept their concentration and battling spirit till the final whistle blew and were rewarded with a point.Showing Well: for Kilcullen were Mursur Dean, Conor Halpin and Yinta their Goal Keeper.

Strongest in this game for Clane was their back line.

Clane U10 Premier see off Arlington February 28th '09

Under 10 Premier Division
Clane United U10p 5 Arlington AFC 2

Saturday morning saw Clane United and Arlington meet for the second time this season with Clane having home advantage. Conditions were good and dry with a slight breeze across the pitch. Clane tipped off and for the first eight minutes had Arlington’s defence under siege. Clear cut chances were at a premium with Tadgh Montgomery and Natanial Harris denied by the Arlington keeper. The home-side continued to push forward but a long ball from the Arlington’s Kieran Finnelly and a super run from Jamie Connolly put the visitors one up after twelve minutes of play. This seemed to spur the home side on and it took fifteen minutes of play to break down a dogged Arlington defence. Clane won a corner kick and Brian McLoughlin headed home to leave the match 1-1. Arlington tipped off but were under attack straight away with excellent play from Daniel Hahn (Clane’s Captain) and Ross Kinsella. The ball was played down the middle to Tadgh Montgomery who was fouled and awarded a penalty. Kinsella duly converted from the spot to leave the match 2-1 at the interval.

The Second half started with Clane once again setting the pace. The introduction of Brian Corbett, Owen O’Loughlin and Kyle Hussy brought fresh legs to the home side. Clane deservedly got their third goal when hard-working Brian McLoughlin put Kyle Hussy through with only the keeper to beat. Kyle made no mistake and side footed to the corner of the net to leave the match 3-1. Clane were now hungry for the ball with the mid-field pairing of Corbett and O’Loughlin closing down the opposition every time. It was always going to be a struggle for Arlington as they had no subs and with pressure mounting, Brian McLoughlin netted two more goals to earn him a well deserved hat-trick.

Arlington’s never say die attitude made it uncomfortable for the Clane defence of Adam Donovan, Caolan Smith and Colm O’Sullivan who gave a solid display of defending. With the clock ticking, the visitors won the ball out on the right and continued to push forward down the wing. Jamie Hanlon crossed to find John Kelly in the box who booted the ball to the back of the net to leave the score 5-2 to Clane United. Clane deservedly won the game but Arlington should take credit for their excellent attitude when they fell behind. Best for Arlington was Kieran Finnelly in defence. Best for Clane was Brian McLoughlin who worked tirelessly throughout the game. Both clubs should be congratulated for the excellent spirit in which the game was played.

Clane take all three points away to Kill. February 21st '09

Under 7 Division
Kill Celtic 2 Clane United U7 5

Another great display from the kids on the under 7's.

The conditions were good and our team were well organised against  good opposition. The teams were evenly matched in the first period and there was good end to end play. In the second period Clane got the deserved breakthrough from Liam Wright.

In the Third period well taken goals by Liam Wright and Andrew Farrell put Clane three up, but then Kill scored twice to make a game of it. With all to play for in the last period, Kill threw everything at the Clane defence which held out well. With Kill pressing on, it left gaps at the back and Sean Connolly scored twice to put the game beyond doubt.

Home win for under 9's February 21st '09

Under 9 Premier
Clane United U9 1 Bush Celtic 0

Both sides took to the field with players missing due to the mid term break.

After early pressure from Clane, the visitors from Bush settled into the game and great deffending from Larry Kelly kept the Clane side at bay. Mid way through the first period Bush mounted a number of attacks on the Clane goal through their forwards Kallum Ennis and Adam McInerney.

These advances on goal were well controlled by the two Clane defenders Gareth Cleary and James Behan, who both had outstanding games for the home side. The midfield battle saw Bush celtic's Stephen Crowley pit his witts against the ever strong Sean Callan and his midfield partner Sam McCormack. Both sides went in level at the break and deservedly so.

Clane got  the better of the early exchanges in the second half with strong running from centre forward Jack Wright and Sean Callan causing Bush early problems. If it wasn't for Bush keeper David Sutton the deadlock might have been broken earlier. With ten minutes remaining the eventual winner arrived through good work from Padraig Lally playing the ball through to Sean Callan who calmly slotted home.

Clane could have gone two up shortly after when a great pass from Evan Heary was struck by Jack Wright only to hit the underside of the crossbar and come back out off the line. A late chance by Bush was calmly collected by Clane stand in keeper Sean Hannon. His resulting kick out was followed by the final whistle and a loud chear as the home side recorded a well desrved victory.

Credit to both teams for the manner in which they conducted themselves.

Clane's Dynamic duo bag two hat-tricks. February 14th '09

Under 14 CUP
Clane United U14 8 Kilcock Celtic 1

Dean Callan and Dylan Hannon were instrumental in seeing Clane United through to the next round of the under 14 Cup. This is not to say it was an individual performance from either player, as the Clane side played as a unit throughout this game with each and every player making a huge contribution to the excellent performance of the team as a whole.

The first half commenced at a fast pace and it was Clane who were first to show with Kilcock Keeper, Greg Murphy, into action, to keep his team in the game. Callan and Hannon shot wide on a number of occasions and it was beginning to look like “one of those games” when you do everything right and the ball still fails to go in the net. It was 24 minutes before the deadlock was broken with Killian Patchell picking up the ball in midfield and shimmying past a couple of the Kilcock midfield before sending a perfect pass to the feet of Dylan Hannon, who calmly broke the deadlock.

Within minutes Kilcock were on the attack and Clane failed to clear the ball from their lines cleanly and a penalty was awarded for Kilcock which Shane O’Rourke converted very well. This was a wake up call to Clane and for the further 8 minutes they had all the possession. The sides were level at half time.

After a good talking to about the importance of taking your chances and making sure they count, Clane were back on form within minutes of the second half commencing, with Dean Slattery sending the ball over the midfield and Callan going on a run and slamming the ball into the back of the net. Minutes later a corner was awarded to Clane and Callan sent it in to the back post, where Hannon was waiting to slot it home. Clane’s back line of Sean O’Rourke, Dean Slattery, Karl Cleary and Andrew Power were as solid a wall, little got past them and if it did it could not get past the net minder, Peter Hogarty, who is proving himself to be a superb keeper.

Unfortunately Kilcock tried to play the “offside trap” and this proved to be their downfall as time and time again Callan and Hannon broke through to score a “Hat Trick” each and 1 extra for Hannon. This was all with the help of Clane’s midfield of Killian Patchell, Stephen Byrne, Shane Ryan and Scot Hannon knowing just when to release the perfect ball to set them on their way.

With minutes to go a corner was awarded to Clane and Karl Cleary went up to slot home a brilliant header from Callan’s corner.

Darren O’Connor, Shane O’Rourke and James Grogan all performed well for Kilcock but on the day it was a fair result for Clane to take the points.

Caragh edge out Clane February 14th '09

Under 9 Division
Caragh Celtic U9 2 Clane United 1

In the true spirit of St Valentine there may not have been love in the air but there was certainly passion on the pitch from Clane United.

A gripping and grueling performance was on display with a tight 1st half defensive display by Clane. Hats off to Keeper Sean Byrne who fended off a barrage of attempts from Caragh Celtic.

In the second half both teams came back stronger, more energized and determined as ever. Martin Callan and Niall Little put in a committed display not putting a foot wrong not forgetting the 1st scorer of the match, five minutes into the second half, Emmet Malone.

For Caragh there was also some fancy footwork from Sean Gallagher who netted the equalizer. Josh Martin scored the winning goal fo Caragh keeping Clane out for the narrow win.

A thoroughly enjoyable match for both players and spectators. Well done to both teams.

Under 11 CUP
Clane United U11 9 Arlington AFC 0

After a long spell of postponed matches, finally Clane United got to play their cup match against Arlington.

Clane started brightly and opened the scoring with a well struck shot from Michael Raheen. Clane turned the screw and scored another three in the first half through goals from Paddy Jordan, Robbie Hyland and Cormac Palmer.

The second half started with Clane on top and further goals from Ethan O'Donoghue, Michael Raheen, Cormac Palmer and man of the match Paddy Jordan. Arlington battled hard throughout but were beaten by the better team and thats how the game ended.

Best for Clane was Paddy Jordan.

8 Goal thriller for Under 7's February 14th '09

Under 7 Division
Clane United U7 6 Kynog United 2

It was a perfect morning for playing football and the playing surface was in good condition.

Both teams provided the supporters of both teams with an entertaining game of football, with Clane proving too strong  on the day for a talented Kynog team.

In the first period, both teams were well matched until Clane's Liam Wright was fouled in the box and scored the resulting penalty. In the second period, Clane’s Sean Connolly went on a long solo run to score a fine goal and put Clane 2 – 0 in the lead at half time.

In the third period Kynog fought back and pulled a goal back through Eoin Melia, which gave Kynog some hope, but goals from Adam Quinn and three more from Liam Wright put Clane comfortably in the lead.

In the final period Kynog continued to put pressure on the Clane defence and this paid off when Tom Fallon scored a good goal from open play.

Solid home result - U8's. February 1st '09

Under 8 Division
Clane United U8 1 Newbrideg Town 0

Newbridge arrived to Doctors road to face a somewhat depleted Clane side.

As what seems to be the norm now, it took Clane a few minutes to gain composure and get into the game. Clane's lone striker, Liam Wright, had a couple of bustiling runs at the Newbridge defence and was unlucky not to score on two occasions. Sam Donavan and Jack McCann gave a good account of themselves in defence to keep Newbridge at bay. It was not untill just before half time when Clane got on the scoreboard. Evan Heary took a fine corner from the left only for it to be cleared to the edge of the box and it was Heary again who struck it into the roof of the net.

After the break it was all end to end play with Shane Marron and Jack McGrory in the thick of the action for Clane. For the last ten minutes it was all Newbridge. Clane keeper Carlos Craine had to pull off a couple of fine saves to keep Newbridge at bay and Clane defended well for the clean sheet.
