Honours even - U7's. January 24th '09

Under 7 Division
Clane United U7 4 Bush Celtic 4

It was a perfect morning for playing football, the frost had cleared and the playing surface was perfect for the under 7's first game of 2009. Both teams put on a great display of football and provided the supporters with an exciting and entertaining game which finished in a draw.

Both teams exchanged the lead throughout, with Andrew Spain putting Bush in the lead in the first period.

In the second period Eoin O'Brien equalised,Liam Wright put Clane in front and then Stephen Rennick scored to level the contest at half time. In the third period Stephen Rennick put Bush in the lead only for Liam Wright to cancel that out and the sides were level again. In the fourth period Bush went into the lead thanks to Stephen Rennick completing his hatrick and then Liam Wright completed his hatrick just at the death for both teams to deservedly share the points.

Under 9 Premier Division
Clane United U9 1 BBC United 5

On this bright and frosty morning, there was certainly no-one getting frost bite, with all the high energy from Clane and BBC. BBC had a strong side with hat trick scorer Carl Malone, and goal scorers, Lee Sheehan and Jordon O Connor. There was certainly a challenge for Clane United.

On the Clane side, although disheartened, they had some impressive tackles and defensive play. Emmet Malone netted a cracker for Clane and Daniel Mulqueen was playing superbly.

Well done to both teams for a very entertaining Saturday morning!

Under 14 Premier Division
Clane United U14p 8 Monastrevin 0

Clane United secured another 3 points today as they played host to Monasterevin at Doctors Road.

Weather conditions were atrocious and made it impossible for either side to play their best game. Clane were in control of the first half of the game and a hat trick by Dylan Hannon and 2 by Killian Patchell saw Clane 5 up at half time. Unfortunately Monasterevin lost their Goalkeeper near the end of the first half and Clane capitalised on this with 2 good goals by Dean Callan but the goal of the day was saved till last. Shane Ryan
collected the ball in midfield and dribbled past 3 defenders and calmly slotted it home to finish a rewarding game for Clane.

Best for Monasterevin: Darren Farrell, Craig Lawlor and Rian Cullen
Best for Clane: Karl Cleary, Dean Slattery and Stephen Byrne

Clane U13's to strong for Newbridge. January 10th '09

Under 13 Premier Division
Clane United U13p 3 Newbridge Town 0

Strong wind and driving rain played a huge factor in this U13 premier league fixture between Clane Utd and Newbridge town A.

Clane started well as you would expect the home team to do, putting the town keeper Kevin Edmonds under a lot of pressure.  Clane’s midfield pair, Kieran Colgan and Paddy Holligan commanded the centre while the two wing men Liam O’Brien on the left and Anthony Ennis on the right provided many crosses that towns centre halves Ellias Kadri and Liam McDermot had to deal with through out the match.
The breakthrough came with 5 mins left in the 1st half. A nice passing move from Clane, finished by Colgan who was scoring his 3rd goal in as many matches.

The second half saw the weather deteriorate further. Clane made a few changes early on seeing Holligan moving out right and Evan Sutton coming on for birthday boy Ennis. The change added strength to Utd’s midfield and the 2nd goal came from a through ball from Sutton, who passed to Clane centre forward Mickey O’Reilly whose blistering pace was enough to beat town’s defenders and slot past the brave Edmonds.

Clane’s 3rd goal saw their captain, centre forward Devina Ntim finish off a fine passing move starting from Clane’s box where Centre half Cathal Egan drove forward with the ball before finding O’Brien on the left wing, O’Brien skilfully beat his marker before passing to Ntim who used his strength and considerable ability to beat centre halves and keeper.
Clane’s solid back four or Cathal O’Brien, Daran O’Meara, Cathal Egan and Luke Dardis gave town very few chances, the only exception falling to Connor Delahunty who was clean in on goal only to pull his shot to the right and wide. As the match progressed Clane made a few substitutions, seeing Eamonn Collins come on up front and Ntim moving to midfield, Johnny Callen replacing Cathal O’Brien at right full and Aaron Kirwan replacing Liam O’Brien on the left wing. The end of the game saw the Clane keeper Mark O’Shea being carried off with a dead leg, after a town player caught him on the thigh with his knee. Town received a yellow card for the challenge that was more late than malicious.

This was Clane’s 3rd win in a row all against Newbridge opposition, and they will be happy in the fact that both forwards got on the score sheet again. Clane are getting stronger, passing the ball well and will look back ruefully at some of the early season score lines.

Clane hit the ground running in 2009. January 10th '09

Under 14 Premier Division
Clane United U14p 5 Kildare Town 1

Clane hosted Kildare Town to-day in an eagerly awaited start to the second half of the season.

This game started with Clane well on top in the opening 5 minutes
and when Clane were awarded a corner Dean Callan took note of the high wind and placed the ball in perfectly for Karl Cleary to head it beyond the Kildare keeper.

Within minutes, confusion in the Kildare defence gave Clanes Killian Patchell the opportunity to put the home side 2 up. Clane kept the ball on the ground throughout the game and this resulted in some fine passing and positional play by Clane and never gave the opposition an opportunity to penetrate their defence. From a clearance by Karl Cleary, Dylan Hannon picked up the ball in midfield and laid it off to Dean Callan, who had started one of his now famous runs, and left the Kildare defence just watching. Clane United 3 up.

The midfield was controlled by Clanes Killian Patchell, Stephen Byrne Shane Ryan and Andrew Power and they did their job to perfection with Shane Ryan well deserving of man of the match. Just before half time Patchell skilfully nicked the ball from the feet of the opposition, dribbled past a few and struck past the keeper. Clane went in a well deserved 4-0.

The second half was a new game with Kildare coming out to try and recoup their losses and put in a brave effort with a number of shots on goal but these were handled well by the Clane net minder Peter Hogarty. In the dying minutes Kildare were rewarded with a late goal for their efforts.

Honours even at Doctors road. January 10th '09

Under 11 Premier Division
Clane United U11 1 Athy Town 1

Clane and Athy played out a 1 all draw at a wind swept Doctors road on Saturday morning. Athy put the pressure on early as they played the first half with the wind at their backs. Both teams played some good football but some fine defending from Clane's Danny Callen and Ross Fitzsimons kept the score nil all at half time.

The second half was more attacking and Clane took the lead with a long range strike from Jack McCreevey that found the top corner of the net. This goal kicked Athy into action and some relentless attacking earned Athy their equaliser. Both teams pushed for a winner but it was not to be and that's how it finished. Best for Clane were Danny Callen and Robbie Hyland.
